August 6, 2004 - Deans' Chili Challenge click
here for details Dean Gale Issues Chili-Challenge to Deans "Bring it on, baby!" Dean Peg Gale of the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science has issued a challenge to the other deans of the university to show their stuff on August 6, 2004 at the university's first-ever Deans' Chili Challenge. "Yeah, my award-winning vegetarian chili is so good, I don't think there is another dean at this university that could beat it. I won the School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science faculty/staff chili challenge in 2002 with my special recipe and I know I can take the other deans - if they're not too chicken I have thrown down the gauntlet, " Dean Peg Gale was heard chortling recently. But seriously folks, the popularity of the school's past chili-challenges during alumni weekend was the basis for expanding the challenge campus-wide. "It's nice to have a fun event where alumni, friends, faculty and staff can participate in an informal way. It has really been a hit for the school. It has been a big draw. We are happy to take the event to the next level and we hope the university shares the same kind of success we have had," said Dean Gale.
Alumnus Barbara Bennett ('78) and Assistant Professor David Flaspholer sample the chili. (2002 file photo) The
Deans' Chili Challenge will be held in conjunction with Michigan Tech's
Alumni Reunion events. Deans from other departments have been invited
to accept the challenge.
Each chili-team
(headed by a dean) will prepare five gallons of chili for the event. Everyone is invited to attend from noon until the chili runs out. Voting will be ongoing with everyone "voting" for their favorite chili. One dollar equals one vote and the dean whose chili gets the most votes will be declared Chili-Dean of MTU 2004. The proceeds will go into scholarship funds for the departments who participate. To ensure that the other deans would hear the challenge and step up to the, er, stove, Dean Gale boldly stated, "Being Chili Champ at SFRES is nice, but I know my chili and I can stand up to stronger competition and ultimately greater glory." This event should be lots of fun for everyone! Please RSVP by contacting the Alumni Association. The
