Goals/Format: In this class you will learn the basic concepts of plant taxonomy as they relate to woody plants, how to identify local trees and shrubs, how to identify commercially important trees from other areas in North America, and the life-history attributes of these species. The class consists of two one-hour lectures and one four-hour lab per week. The first seven labs are held outdoors and the remaining ones are held in G029 Horner Hall. You will be responsible for learning close to 200 woody plants. This is a memory and time intensive class. FW2010 forms the foundation for subsequent courses in forest biology, ecology, management and conservation.
