The project will focus on silvicultural strategies for enhancing oak regeneration in upland hardwood stands. The research will evaluate techniques such as underplanting, soil scarification, midstory removal, and shelterwood methods. Analysis will evaluate the impacts of these approaches on the understory environment, tree seedling development, and response of invasive species. The project will provide students with a detailed understanding of the ecology and silviculture of oak dominated forests as well as experience in tree physiology and forest biometrics. Qualifications: Position requires a B.S. in forestry, ecology, environmental science, biology, or related field. A strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team are essential. Preferred academic qualifications include undergraduate GPA > 3.0 and GRE scores > 1000 (verbal + quantitative). A departmental assistantship is available for highly qualified students.
