Carolyn Two Positions in California Watershed Research: Chemist and Data/GIS Recruitment Notice for Environmental Chemist and Data Services Specialist Positions USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station, Fresno, CA. The Kings River Experimental Watershed (KREW) is seeking scientific staff that enjoy outside work in forested, mountain landscapes. Work is in the southern Sierra Nevada mountains, Kings River drainage (located between Yosemite and Sequoia-Kings Canyon National Parks). KREW hosts the National Science Foundation’s new Southern Sierra Critical Zone Observatory and will be part of their National Ecological Observatory Network. The research addresses basic science questions for ecology and hydrology and applied forest management issues. As part of our team, you would be involved in data collection, analysis, and maintenance for 10 headwater stream sites instrumented since 2002 for discharge, turbidity, and water temperature measurements; four meteorological towers; four soil moisture monitoring sites; and numerous air quality monitoring sites. Biological measurements are also taken for vegetation and invertebrates. Each year KREW analyzes about 2,000 samples for chemistry parameters. ACCESS is the primary database.
