Temporary//Superior N.F.//Forest Technician

Hi Chris,
The LaCroix Ranger District of the Superior National Forest is looking to
hire a temporary forest technician position for this field season. The
person hired into the position will have their work time split between
being a crew leader for our YCC crew and working as part of the timber sale
prep crew. From June 2nd until approximately August 1st, the person will
serve as the leader for the YCC crew located on the district. Projects for
the crew this summer include campground and trail maintenance, TSI work,
and helping our reforestation program establish and monitor some study
plots related to deer browse. Prior to June 2nd, and after Aug. 1st, the
person hired will work mainly as part of the timber sale prep crew. Work
will include help with sale layout and individual tree marking.
The position is geared towards someone who can work the a full 6 -months
(the position will be filled as a 1039 appointment if you are familiar with
federal hiring), however, we are willing to consider a shorter duration if
a suitable candidate is found. If you have anyone interested in the
position, there are two vacancy announcements that we will pull names from.

graduating or who have several years of field experience should apply at
the GS-5 level, which is announcement #DE-OCR-0462-5-TSP. People who are
returning to school, or those with no field experience should apply at the
GS-4 level, which is announcement #DE-OCR-0462-4-TSP. Under these
announcements, applicants need to select a duty location of Cook, MN to be
considered.
If someone is unsure about which announcement to apply to, have them apply
to both. Applications will be pulled from these vacancy announcements on
March 15th, with a tentative start date of mid-May. Start date is
flexible.
Government housing may or may not be available. A determinition has yet to
be made.
