 Are you a progressive research scientist interested in conducting research
to help improve Ontario’s hardwood forest ecosystem management policies and
 practices? If so, then the Ministry of Natural Resources has an exciting
 opportunity for you to join their dynamic team of science professionals.
 Working with the Forest Research and Development Section, you will develop
 and conduct a comprehensive applied research program in hardwood
 silviculture and hardwood forest ecosystem management as well as
 forest-lake ecotone ecological management. You will design, conduct and
 coordinate research studies based on expertise in hardwood stand and
 ecosystem dynamics, perform advanced statistical analysis on data to
 produce expert scientific recommendations as well as prepare technical and
 scientific reports. You will liaise and collaborate with researchers, field
 and planning staff, resource specialists and managers, as well as policy
 developers and others. You will also communicate results of your research
 to the international science community, ministry staff and external
 stakeholders as well as provide socioeconomic advice to support planning,
 policy and management decisions.

 Qualifications: postgraduate degree in forestry or related natural sciences
 with specialization to the PhD level or equivalent, from a university of
 recognized standing; sound knowledge of hardwood stand dynamics, forest
 ecosystem ecology, silviculture and management, as well as research methods
 and processes; comprehensive knowledge of statistical methods and modeling
 ecological processes; demonstrated ability to formulate hypotheses and
 design and analyze experiments; ability to use laboratory and field
 equipment; proven leadership, organizational, planning and analytical
 skills; strong interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to
 effectively communicate in published scientific papers, and to other
 technical and non-technical audiences; experience in database management,
 statistical analysis, graphics, word processing and spreadsheets; ability
 to work as a team member as part of an interdisciplinary research group.
