MS and PhD Research Assistantships in Silv. and Biometrics, GA
The University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is seeking graduate students at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels with interests in silviculture and/or biometrics of southern pine plantations. Examples of research topics are: 1) evaluating planting density and cultural intensity impacts on stand, tree, and crown attributes and subsequent thinning response; 2) identifying silvicultural systems for multiproduct objectives (biomass, carbon, pulpwood, chip-n-saw, sawtimber); 3) developing precision silviculture decision support tools; 4) assessing stand dynamics and quality attributes in varietal plantations and implications for growth and yield modeling; 5) updating biomass estimation systems; and 6) evaluating nontraditional variables (location, climate, leaf area) in growth and yield systems; and 7) incorporating wood quality and growth responses into growth and yield models. Assistantships include a competitive stipend and tuition waiver. Funding sour
ces include the Plantation Management Research Cooperative, the Wood Quality Consortium, and the NSF Center for Advanced Forestry Systems. Those interested should email mkane@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx a one page letter or CV detailing research interests, GPAs, GREs, experience and skills. For more information, contact Dr. Michael Kane at 706-542-3009.
