Colorado State seasonal positions



 

 

SEASONAL FORESTRY POSITIONS AVAILABLE

COLORADO STATE FORESTGOULD, COLORADO

2009 FIELD SEASON

 

 

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Cruising and data collection for forest-wide inventory
  • Chainsaw operation - thinning, firewood, and other cleanup.  Safety training provided.
  • Assisting with timber sale layout - cruising, boundary delineation, and marking
  • Various GPS and GIS applications
  • Assisting with assessment and treatment of insect and disease projects
  • General labor - rock headers, fences, facility and equipment maintenance, etc.
  • Wildfire suppression may be required if needed locally and you meet qualifications.

 

Approximate dates of employment:

            End of May 2009 through August 2009 (start and end date may be variable)

 

 

Wage:  $11.00 per hour (depending on experience) – Dormitory style housing provided.

 

 

Other Information: The Colorado State Forest is located approximately 75 miles west of Fort Collins. It is a 71,000 acre forest ranging in elevation from 8,000 to 13,000 feet. The Colorado State Forest Service offers seasonal employees a wide range of forest management opportunities. Seasonal employees will be constantly challenged to improve their field forestry skills, including the use of maps, compasses, clinometers and increment borers. In addition, employees will be exposed to various technological applications, including GPS, GIS and digital mapping. Work days are long and very demanding: work is predominately in the field, often in high-elevation locations with difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions. Seasonal employees will have opportunities to lead, educate, and take part in an integrated forest management program.
