Summer Res. Asst. (4 positions) in S. Carolina





*The Center for Forested Wetlands Research intends to fill the following
Research Assistant positions during the Summer, 2009:*

*A) Research Assistant – Biogeochemical Modeling Applications*

The position will involve assembling spatial (GIS) and tabular data for use in modeling applications, summarizing modeling results, preparing tables and graphics. The incumbent will also conduct literature searches and summarize findings. Experience with Arcview or ArcGIS, and Excel is needed.

*B) Research Assistant – Data Analyses and Reporting*

The position will involve analyzing and summarizing data from studies on carbon and nutrient cycling in forested wetlands. The incumbent will also conduct literature searches and summarize findings. Experience with Arcview and Excel is needed.

*C) Research Assistant – Communications, Information, and Historical Land Use*

The position will involve organizing and packing information for delivery on the Unit’s web site, conducting research and preparing a report on the historical land use of the Experimental Forest, and assisting the implementation of the Center’s on-line data base. Experience with Arcview, Photoshop, and web tools is beneficial.

*D) Research Assistant – Field and laboratory studies.*

The position will involve assisting with field and laboratory activities related to the study of prescribed fire effects on carbon and nutrient cycling. Activities will include assisting with field measurements, sampling, sample processing, and data summarization.

The positions are available for full time work during May – August, 2009. The positions will be filled at the GS3-5 range ($11.62-14.06 / hr) depending on experience.

*Location*: The positions are located at the Center for Forested Wetlands Research, on the Santee Experimental Forest; located 23 miles north of Charleston, SC.
