Scholarships Available - SMA Annual Conference
  
Thanks to a grant from USDA Forest Service, Southern Region, SMA has a 
limited number of scholarships for the annual conference and trade show in 
Savannah , GA , Oct 4-7, 2009 
  
Scholarships will be awarded and will cover conference registration fees 
($349 by September 18, $225 for students) and a stipend of $151 to offset 
other costs (e.g., hotel, travel, Saturday workshop.) 
  
If you receive a scholarship, you will be notified by the scholarship 
committee in time to register at the early-bird rate and before the hotel 
cut-off date of Sept. 4.  Scholarship recipients will receive a code that 
will be needed to register for the conference. Those that register on-line 
with the scholarship code will not need to pay the conference registration 
fee, and will be reimbursed $151 after the conference for travel costs. 
Those who do not register on-line will need to pay the conference 
registration fee and will be reimbursed after the conference for both 
registration and the $151 travel portion. 
  
Eligibility: 
Awards will be based on the following criteria: 
  
1.         Membership in SMA, and 
Individual SMA membership is $75, student membership is $40.  Join at

2.         Demonstration of leadership and volunteerism in SMA, through 
attendance at programs and/or service on committees/board, or current 
university student in urban forestry or related major, and 
3.         Financial need. 
  
Requirements: 
1.      Scholarship recipients are required to attend the entire SMA 
conference, Oct 4-7.  No reimbursement will be made to recipients who do 
not attend the full conference.
2.      Scholarship recipients  must stay at the conference hotel if space 
is available, although shared rooms are acceptable.
3.      Scholarship recipents must be willing to contribute to a City 
Trees article about their conference experience.  Students will display a 
poster demonstrating an experience they have had on a project in a 
municipality or with a municipal forester (undergraduate students) or 
showcasing research areas of interest that impact municipal forestry 
(graduate students).

Application Review 
Applications will be reviewed by an ad-hoc committee of the SMA.
