Pay Range: $2,900 - $3,333 Per Month
Hire Period: Two Years

DEPARTMENT: Northern Laramie Range Forest Management Project
LOCATION: Casper Wyoming

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK: Assists project partners in promoting management of forested lands for multiple resource benefits; advances protection of life, property and wildland resources from fire, forest pests and other destructive forces on forested lands; provides forestry assistance to private landowners, industry, communities and public agencies to achieve optimum environmental, economic and social benefits from forest resources; implements silvicultural practices under the direction of Wyoming State Forestry
Division and Natrona County Firewise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists with preparation and implementation of forest management plans based on accepted silvicultural practices; provides multiple resource management technical assistance to forest landowners; assists with administration of, and provides technical assistance for, federal cost share programs to private landowners; promotes management of trees in communities to protect, conserve and enhance community values and the environment; assists private landowners with insect and disease problems; develops and delivers workshops, written materials and educational programs to educate landowners and cooperators; represents the project in meetings; provides technical assistance to groups or agencies supplying woody plant materials; provides for and cooperates with federal and state agencies, counties, fire districts and municipal governments on local fire prevention and wildland urban interface
issues.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge of forest entomology, pathology, forest management and planning for major silvicultural types of the region; knowledge of basic surveying principles, map reading and GIS/GPS technology; knowledge of wildland fire fighting principles and fire behavior. Ability to apply professional scientific techniques to the land for which responsibilities are assigned, ability to effectively cooperate with the general public, cooperators and peers. Skill in use and operation of forestry field equipment and ATVs; skills in communicating both orally and in written form to convey clear persuasive messages that positively influence the thoughts and actions of others; proficient skills in the use of Microsoft
Office applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in forest management or closely related field, PLUS one year of professional work experience in
forest management or protection.
