Alternative Bio-based Paths to Prosperity for Small and Medium
Agricultural Producers and Forest Landowners in the U.S. Gulf South:
A Pilot Study in Louisiana and Mississippi


Dr. Richard Vlosky, Director and Professor, Forest Products Marketing Program/Louisiana Forest
Products Development Center in the School of Renewable Natural Resources at Louisiana State
University is soliciting candidates to pursue a M.S. degree with an emphasis in business and marketing
in the area of wood and agricultural bio-based energy and fuels to start Spring Semester 2010.

In addition to a 2-year graduate research assistantship ($19,000/year), a 100% tuition waiver and thesis
research funding will be provided to the successful candidate. In addition, up to $1,000 in page charges
for refereed journal publications (with the candidate as first author) and all project-related travel
expenses will be covered including giving a presentation at a national conference.

The successful applicant must be highly motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, have a 100%
command of English speaking and writing abilities, and enjoy working in a results-oriented
environment.

Application Procedure:
The deadline to apply online to the LSU Graduate School for U.S. citizens and international applicants
in the U.S. on F-1 or J-1 student visas is January 1, 2010. Applicants must have taken the GRE (above
1100 preferred) and have the score available for the LSU application forms. In addition to the GRE,
international students must have TOEFL or IELTS scores available UNLESS the applicant has a
university degree from a U.S. institution or from a country where English is the primary language. All
