Regarding photo D in "Name the Techie", the musher is Joel ?. He was actually an engineer, not a forester. Greetings to all from me, Jeff, Emma and Adam.

Regarding photo A, from the 1959 Forester yearbook:
BASKETBALL
In basketball, the Foresters went all the way to win the intramural championship. The season's league record was eight victories and only one setback. Then followed four straight play-off wins. The final game was a thrilling triumph by one point in overtime. The champs had Don Hasler and Elmer Richoff (editor's note: actual spelling is Rieckhoff) at the guards, freshman Bill Hillstrom at the pivot and Bob Utter and Al Olson, the high scoring twosome, at forward. Doing a capable job in relief were Dave Norton, Ray Theiler and Dan Matero.

Photo caption: Champion cagers are left to right front row: Gary Keppen, Dave Norton, Ray Theiler and Dan Matero; back row: Bob Utter, Al Olson, Bill Hillstrom, Elmer Reickhoff (see editor's note above) and Don Hasler.

Mary Jurgensen think photo E was taken in 1996 or 1997 and identifies the people as (left to right): Brian McLaren, Kevin Megown, Kate Lenz, Terri Schwerdtfeger, Rabecca Perkiss, Sarah Brown (Dye), Eric Trott, Jared Deforest and Missy Piirainen

Hello,
My husband Tom graduated from Tech in 1963. He was reading this newsletter from Winter 2002 awith the old pictures. He thinks in photo B, he is the one standing up behind the 5 other guys. Others he can identify are ? Gogin, Floyd Roberts and maybe a guy by the name of Franzen.

Tom doesn't play around on the computer like I do so I said I would send this off for him!!! He is retired about 4 years now, from the USFS. He was a forester with USFS since graduating from Mich Tech in 1963. We are currently living in Duluth, Mn. We really like it here and we are both originally from Ashland WI so we are close to home again.

Thanks.

You sure caught me off guard with the forestry newsletter photos! I'm in photo E, and I'm guessing it's from between 1995-1997. I don't remember everyone's names, but I do recognize all the faces. Melissa
Piirainen (now Melissa Taylor for the past 4 days), Eric Trott, Jared ?, Terri Schwerdtfeger and her friend, Kevin ? Sorry, but that's the best I can do right now! Thanks again for the laugh.

Tom Cieslinski has got all of the names right on photo B including Bob Brisson, who is standing. I am the fifth guy seated, John Franzen. Bob and I were both 1962 grads, so the picture was probably taken during the winter of 61/62. I think this bowling team may have been the Forestry team for winter carnival competition, but I wouldn`t swear to that.

Best regards to 1962 Forestry grads! Forty years sure goes by in a hurry doesn`t it?!!

Photo B, I believe, was taken during the winter of 62/63. The 4 seated from left to right are Floyd Roberts, Richard Geiss, Tom Cieslinski (me), and John Gogin, all class of 63. I don't know the fifth seated. The standing individual appears to be B. Brisson (not the 63 class).

The photo may have been taken by Tom Piehl (63), who was by far the best bowler on the team with close to a 200 average.

Bowling was inexpensive back then plus I had my own shoes. Even so, I was compelled to document every penny I spent on bowling (and other activities) for my aunt who helped pay my way through college. I gave her a monthly account of those expenses. She always questioned bowling
and pool.

We had a great time bowling that year, finishing in second place in the intramural league. Many of these individuals also participated in the intramural golf tournament in the spring of 63, finishing 2nd. or 3rd. as I recall. But alas, golf photos never made the Forester deadlines back then and probably don't today.

Carrie-
Photo D is from Winter Carnival 1988, not 1989. The sled girls are (back to front) Meral Jackson, Sue Gresens (me), Sue Hart, and Lisa Anderson. I don't remember who is the guy is...maybe Dave Neph. I was the editor of the yearbook that year and recognized that picture right away, since we used it in the 1988 yearbook.

Thanks for your work on the newsletter. I enjoy reading it and finding out what graduates are doing with their degrees. It is interesting to see the different projects and forestry work that people get into. It always brings up that urge that I have to get back into some kind of environmentally related work!

I am the Property Manager at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Traverse City. I take care of maintenance issues for the 15 different condominium associations we have on property, which is 440 owners. Busy work. And typically a thankless job-I pretty much listen to complaints and fix problems. But I love living in Traverse City! Canoeing , mountain biking, cross-country skiing-all right out my back door. Plus I get free golf at the resort-which makes most people envious. Although, I'm not a big fan of golf! After I graduated in 1988, I worked in environmental education for two years. Then it is a long story how I got from that kind of work, to this kind of work! (so don't ask!)

Take care, Sue Gresens

I sure recognize the gang in photo "A". The one guy to the right of the one in the plaid shirt is Dave Norton of Rhinelander, Wisconsin fame. Dave was a good guy, a true Hodag and a family man who was too busy to join the TD Club (Theiler DeGenaro)-even though he wanted too. Jerry Theiler and I wondered what ever happened to Dave.
This photo was taken, circa 1961 probably after the Forestry Club drubbed their opponent in basketball.
